Harbor View was a project held during the Samband Íslenskra Myndlistarmanna Residency Program in Reykjavík (Iceland). The harbour region of the Icelandic capital served as a platform for this project by mapping pre-determined locations and pictorially represented during the period of residence. The resulting installation was selected the following year in Belém (Pará / Brazil) at the III Contemporary Diary of Photography Award.
"... The artist chooses initially a distant view of a distant country, a satellite view over the port area of Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, from the Panoramio site, which allows geographical location. but there are at least two important elements that guide the poetics of work: one is the plastic reconstruction, personal of a place from a map of data available in a network of sharing, the other is a process of knowledge, closer approximation of a distant place that is remapped with photography, painting and object. The harbour image seen by satellite suggests to the artist an approximation of that place, whose landscapes and elements will be photographed and painted for the conception of a new map marked now by the presence of the artist in the landscape. It is redesigned a labyrinth of small screens, satellite images, photographs made by the artist, red markers and wires linking the images. In these routes suggested by Hurpia, the materiality of the work invents a place of continuous search for the recognition of the other, place now shared by the spectator. It remains the action of distance and approach of the 'other', of the foreign land, of the landscape.
